He is an 11th-grade student seeking a mentorship to deepen his understanding of engine functionality or participate in a project related to design for manufacturing.
Aafiya is in the top 15% of his class. He excels in Physics and technology courses in school, and he is proficient in Python. He has also recently completed a Physics research mentorship with a mentor at Georgia Tech. His aim in this mentorship program is to work on a project related to design for manufacturing.
Learning objectives
- To establish a good knowledge of internal combustion engines and, in particular, various steps in the design of light-duty vehicles, including hybrid electric cars and offroad vehicles.
What challenges did he face?
- Aafiya had to figure out different approaches to meet the stringent design requirements of the car, including emissions, efficiency, and weight. He did a great job overcoming all the challenges he faced in the design process.
How did our program help him?
- The overall goal of this program was to establish a good knowledge of internal combustion engines and, in particular, various steps in the design of light-duty vehicles, including hybrid electric cars and offroad vehicles.
- One of the key benefits of working on a Mentorship Program with a mentor from a selective university is to form network with the professors. Aafiya’s performance in this program has won his mentor’s approval, and the mentor initiated to contact Aafiya beyond this program to give him advice and write a reference letter.
Matched Professor
The mentor is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University (CSU). Notable recognition he received includes the 2021 American Chemical Society Physical Chemistry Division Young Investigator Award and the 2018 Amazon Catalyst at ECS award.
