Science and Engineering Research Program

Our Science and Engineering Research Mentorship Program consists of mentors from Brown University, Caltech, University College London and more.

Our students have gained admissions to Ivy League and selective universities such as Duke University, Brown University, New York University and more. Our Mentorship Program allows students to explore projects in Science and Engineering research discipline and prepares them for college-level research.

Dhevan Kalra

Residence: Hyderabad, India
School: Osmania University
Intended major: Biomedical Engineering
Age during program: final year undergraduate student

Dhevan possesses the enthusiasm to learn, as well as outstanding motivation and excellent self-reliance and independence. He participates in several extracurricular activities which includes the roles of Vice-Chair, Co-Director and Event Organizer. Prior to this mentorship program, he has published a research paper “Blind Mate: A Friend to The Blind” on “IEEE -Xplore Digital Library”.

Through the program, he wrote a stellar final research paper that is to be published in Springer's Inventive Material Science and Applications.

His university acceptance includes JHU, Brown and Cornell

Xavier Wu

Residence: Shanghai
School: Shanghai International School
Intended major: Electrical & Mechanical Engineering
Age during program: Grade 11

Xavier is very passionate about electrical and mechanical engineering. He has a lot of ideas, however there was a need for him to focus on the main relevant factors contributing to his design paper.

Through the program, he took part in the International Association of Societies of Design Research Conference 2019 competition with his final research paper, and has received a positive evaluation and letter of recommendation from the professor.

His university acceptance includes UChicago Full Merit Scholarship, Caltech, UC Davis Regents Scholarship USD30K, UC Irvine Directors Scholarship USD20K, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego USD5K.

Emma Zhu

Intended major: Civil Engineering
Age during program: Grade 12

Based on her past experience working in a stream monitoring project conducted by her high-school team for an environmental NGO (Goose Creek), Emma would like to work on a multidisciplinary project which has both engineering and financial aspects.

Warren Su

Residence: Shanghai
School: Shanghai World Foreign Language Middle School
Intended major: Computer Science
Age during program: Grade 10

Warren has huge interest is achieving artificial intelligence through his game concept. During the course of the program, he had to overcome any overwhelming feelings of potentially creating and using his own graphics.

Through the program, he has received a positive evaluation and letter of recommendation from the professor.

His university acceptance includes UC Irvine, Penn State University.

Tommy Yan

Intended major: Computer science or electrical engineering
Age during program: Grade 12

Tommy is ranked top 20% of his class across all subjects. He has previously taken courses in C, Python, and Java as well as automated process control. He has done a beginner-level build of a temperature control system circuit board project.

Freddy Fang

Intended major: Biology/Computer Science
Age during program: Grade 10

Freddy is a student at one of the best international schools in Shanghai. He has high grades and is passionate about biology (neuroscience, DNA, environmental science). He is also into coding and has taken courses in Python and attended a Java summer program at Columbia.

Brandon

Current major: Physics
Age during program: Undergraduate student

Brandon is passionate about Physics. He is currently studying at Nanjing University majoring in Physics. His aim in this program is to gain more project experience in order to apply for a PhD program in the US.

Aabi Sachar

Intended major: Data Science

Aabi is at the top of his class with a 97.2/100 GPA. His primary academic interests are Data Science and Computer Science. Amongst many other awards, he recently won the Silver award in the International Youth Mathematics Challenge and is ranked top 1% Internationally in the "Mathematics Olympiad."

Abigail is actively involved in various extracurricular activities and she absolutely loves being a part of them. Some of the roles she takes on include the president of Live2Drama Shanghai, Leader of Associated Students Body, Student Coach and Assistant Director of International Affairs Association (Model United Nations).

Eena has excellent grades in school. She enjoys coding and learning C, C++, Java, HTML, CSS and Python. She has interest in artificial intelligence and has designed a tele-operated rover that moves with hand signals. In her free time, she plays tennis and does Kathak dancing.

Ekada enjoys participating in computer science related activities, including YTS (Young Technology Scholars) and Project Euler. At YTS, he made a tele-rover that works on gyro controls via bluetooth. He enjoys solving mathematics problems and puzzles.

Conor Wee

School: Chongqing BI academy
Intended major: Biology/Chemistry
Age during program: Grade 11

His main academic interest is in Chemistry and Biology, and he excels in all subjects but especially STEM fields. He has taken AP Chemistry and has been a part of numerous science competitions. In the top 5% of her class, Hanita is passionate about AI and machine learning in health care. She’s student council representative and was recently given the award for highest academic achievement in her grade. She has earned certificates for both game and app development.

Amulya Gupta

Intended major: Bio-engineering or neuroscience

Amulya is passionate about anything related to the field of biology. He scored an honours in biology at school and took part in the Science Olympiad competition.

A science enthusiast, Chloe is currently taking classes for Advanced Chemistry and Honors Biology at school. Jayda Liu

Residence: Virginia, United States
School: Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School
Intended major: Public Health
Age during program: Grade 12

Jayda is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-in-Training student. She is particularly passionate about urban health, which is an interdisciplinary area of public health, urban planning and design, and public policy. She aspires to enter the medical or public health sector. Her aim in this mentorship program is to learn to use statistical data to apply to her area of interests.
