Program Learning Objective

The Psychology Research Program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in the core theories of psychology and their practical applications. Participants will delve into key research areas such as cognitive development, social behavior, mental health, and learning processes. Through the program, students will gain skills in critically analyzing psychological studies, formulating research questions, and engaging with current psychological scholarship.

Program Outline

Week 1:

The student will delve into foundational psychological theories, including behaviorism, cognitive psychology, and psychoanalysis. They will identify a specific area of interest, such as motivation, personality development, or mental health, to refine and define a focused research topic.

Week 2:

The student will explore the influence of cultural and societal factors on human behavior. Insights gained from this analysis will be integrated into the chosen research topic to deepen understanding of how social dynamics shape psychological phenomena.

Week 3:

The student will draft a comprehensive research proposal, detailing the topic, objectives, and significance of the study. Relevant psychological concepts and theories will be identified to provide a theoretical framework for the research.

Week 4:

The student will explore experimental methods, including controlled experiments and naturalistic observations. A theoretical experiment or observational study will be designed to investigate the research question. The mentor will complete a mid-point evaluation to be given to the student.

Week 5:

The student will compile a comprehensive literature review, synthesizing existing research in the chosen area of focus. Emphasis will be placed on identifying knowledge gaps that the research seeks to address.

Week 6:

Week 7:

The student will explore the connections between psychology and other fields, such as neuroscience, education, and technology. Integrating insights from these disciplines will enrich the depth and scope of the research.

Week 8:

The student will examine the practical applications of the research findings in fields such as education, healthcare, and public policy. A reflective summary will be crafted, emphasizing the potential societal impact of the study. The mentor will complete a final evaluation to be given to the student.
