Jane Ho is an 11th grade student from Shanghai, China. She is interested to major in media and advertising.


Jane is passionate about creating compelling advertisements through video and social media. She aims to tell a story through her videos that conveys the importance of particular products. With the professor from NYU, she was able to achieve her project goals in media and advertising!

What challenges did she face?

  • Jane had a clear passion for creating video advertisements, but no real experience in how to effectively create them.
  • Jane’s written content for screenplays had strong ideas but weak sentence structure, grammar and overall cohesiveness.


How did our program help her?

  • We set Jane up with an intensive two months, one-on-one media and advertising program with the professor to work with her on developing a screenplay for a video advertisement.
  • Jane was able to learn more deeply about media and advertising strategies, and how to more effectively compel her target market.
  • Additionally, we designed a portfolio website for Jane, which will enable her to build up her viewers and showcase her works to admission officers in the future.
  • The professor set the goals of the program and consistently provided feedback for improvements, all to set Jane up for success.
  • The professor and Jane worked together to convert stories into screenplay format, which enable them to get a better idea of the number of characters and locations for budgeting.
  • The professor provided reference materials for Jane to study to ensure Jane is fully prepared for each meeting.
  • The professor and Jane worked to convert drawings to film shots, and brainstormed about shots for the camera, in terms of close-up, medium and wide shots.

The professor is a 15-year veteran editor, digital content strategist, cinematographer, college professor and project manager. He has been teaching cinematography and editing at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
