Program Learning Objective
Feel free to reach out and schedule a complimentary consultation with our counselor. Each mentorship program is tailored to match an individual’s level of expertise and research interests.
Program Outline
Week 1:
Week 2:
The student learns to conduct a literature review using databases like PubMed and extract relevant information. With guidance from the mentor, the student identifies gaps in current knowledge and formulates a testable hypothesis. A research proposal is drafted for mentor feedback.
Week 3:
Week 4:
The student begins collecting data using virtual tools, publicly available datasets, or simulations. The mentor ensures the student understands proper data recording and documentation techniques to maintain accuracy and reproducibility. The mentor will complete a mid-point evaluation to be given to the student.
Week 5:
The student learns to analyze their collected data using statistical tools and software. They work with their mentor to interpret the results and create visual representations such as heatmaps, phylogenetic trees, or trend graphs to better understand and communicate findings.
Week 6:
The student and mentor evaluate the findings, troubleshoot any issues, and refine methodologies if needed. The focus is on critically interpreting the data to draw meaningful conclusions and understanding the broader implications of the research.
Week 7:
The student works with their mentor to refine the draft of their research paper. This includes reviewing the introduction, methodology, results, and discussion sections for clarity, coherence, and scientific rigor. The mentor provides detailed feedback on content, formatting, and data presentation, helping the student improve the flow and quality of their paper. By the end of the week, the student incorporates revisions and prepares a near-final version of the research paper.
Week 8:
The student conducts a final review, ensuring all mentor feedback has been addressed and the paper meets academic standards. After submitting the finalized research paper, the student and mentor engage in a wrap-up session. This session focuses on reflecting on the research process, discussing the student’s growth and challenges, and exploring how the skills gained can be applied to future academic or professional pursuits. The mentor will complete a final evaluation to be given to the student.
