Public Policy

Odelia Kraus
She is a Grade 11 student passionate about a mentorship program centered on U.S. or Latin American politics and policies.

Odelia’s primary academic interests include government, international relations, and economics. She serves as the Vice President of her school’s debate club, is a member of the board of directors for her school’s Model United Nations, and recently completed an internship with an NGO focused on improving access to education in Colombia.

Learning objectives

  • The first several weeks focused on developing a rigorous and well-structured research question, followed by a literature review around the research question, methodology for conducting field research, and then executing the research process itself in Argentina.
  • The program culminated in Odelia writing several drafts of her final paper with iterative feedback.

What challenges did she face?

  • Odelia had to learn how to design and conduct structured interviews to collect qualitative data. The necessary skills are often taught in graduate-level courses and Olivia had only a limited amount of time to prepare.

How did our program help her?

  • For her research paper, Odelia conducted original primary research in Argentina through structured interviews with leaders in the public, non-profit, and academic sectors.
  • She completed a high-quality final research paper that is fit for publication at a youth journal.
