Program Learning Objective
The Bioengineering Research Program is designed to equip students with expertise at the crossroads of biology, engineering, and technology. Participants will study key concepts such as biomaterials, biomechanics, and synthetic biology, developing the skills needed to design and evaluate systems and devices that solve biological and medical problems. The program focuses on practical learning through experiments, computational modeling, and engineering design.
Feel free to reach out and schedule a complimentary consultation with our counselor. Each mentorship program is tailored to match an individual’s level of expertise and research interests.
Program Outline
Week 1:
The student will explore advanced topics in bioengineering, such as biomaterials, tissue engineering, and biomechanics, and identify a specific research question or project goal.
Week 2:
The student will study the properties and applications of biomaterials, designing and simulating materials for a specific biomedical application using 3D modeling or computational tools.
Week 3:
The student will analyze mechanical systems in biological contexts, exploring topics like tissue mechanics or joint kinematics, using tools such as MATLAB or CAD software.
Week 4:
The student will learn about tissue engineering principles and virtual or hands-on methods for culturing cells and designing scaffolds for regenerative medicine. The mentor will complete a mid-point evaluation to be given to the student.
Week 5:
The student will explore microfluidic systems and design a small-scale prototype for applications such as diagnostics, drug delivery, or organ-on-chip technologies.
Week 6:
The student will use computational tools to model biological systems, simulate experimental outcomes, and analyze bioengineering solutions for their project.
Week 7:
The student will perform data analysis, integrate findings into their research project, and discuss ethical implications and real-world impact of their work.
Week 8:
The student will prepare and deliver a professional presentation, finalize their research paper, and discuss pathways for further development or publication.
