Program Learning Objective
The Data Science Research Program is designed to provide students with advanced data science skills, emphasizing the ability to analyze complex datasets and address real-world challenges. Students will build expertise in programming languages such as Python and R, as well as statistical modeling and data visualization. The student will also explore data visualization, cloud computing platforms, and big data technologies such as Hadoop and Spark. The program focuses on practical research, guiding participants in designing data workflows and creating solutions for complex real-world challenges.
Feel free to reach out and schedule a complimentary consultation with our counselor. Each mentorship program is tailored to match an individual’s level of expertise and research interests.
Program Outline
Week 1:
Student will explore advanced data science applications across domains such as healthcare, finance, and sustainability. They will identify a research question, secure a relevant dataset, and understand the foundational elements of data architecture.
Week 2:
The student will clean and preprocess their dataset, addressing issues like missing values and inconsistencies. They will also learn to organize data efficiently using database schemas or file hierarchies, ensuring compatibility with data workflows.
Week 3:
The student will gain an understanding of data architecture principles, including relational databases, NoSQL systems, and cloud storage solutions. They will practice managing data with tools like SQL and explore strategies for efficient data retrieval and storage.
Week 4:
The student will perform in-depth EDA using Python or R, uncovering patterns, trends, and outliers. They will create summary statistics and visualizations to make data insights clear and actionable. The mentor will complete a mid-point evaluation to be given to the student.
Week 5:
The student will explore advanced data visualization techniques using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Python libraries such as Matplotlib and Seaborn. They will focus on creating interactive dashboards and storytelling through data visualization.
Week 6:
The student will apply advanced statistical techniques, such as hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and correlation studies, to draw meaningful conclusions from their dataset. They will ensure reproducibility by documenting their processes effectively.
Week 7:
The student will write the methods and results sections of their research paper. They will integrate visualizations and create clear, concise narratives to communicate their findings effectively.
Week 8:
The student will deliver a comprehensive presentation of their project, incorporating feedback from mentors and peers. They will finalize their research paper, ensuring it adheres to publication standards or is ready for academic submission. The mentor will complete a final evaluation to be given to the student.
