Through discussions and analysis, students will strengthen their ability to compare different political perspectives, critically engage with political theory, and build well-supported historical arguments.

Week 4:
Students will explore how wars and revolutions have shaped political history. By analyzing major events like the American Revolution, the French Revolution, and the Cold War, they’ll examine the causes of political conflicts and their lasting consequences. They’ll also study how wars have influenced shifts in governance and shaped international relations. Through these discussions, students will strengthen their ability to analyze historical causes and effects, evaluate the impact of conflicts on political systems, and understand key diplomatic strategies. The mentor will complete a mid-point evaluation to be given to the student.

Through case studies of influential figures, they’ll evaluate leadership effectiveness and consider the ethical dilemmas involved in political decision-making.
Week 6:
Students will take their research skills to the next level by working with archives, government records, and political data. They’ll learn how to navigate both digital and physical archives, interpret political statistics, and organize their findings effectively. To make the research process smoother, they’ll also be introduced to citation management tools like Zotero and Mendeley. By the end of the week, students will have gained hands-on experience in archival research, data analysis, proper source documentation, and tracking political trends through historical data.
Week 7:
Students will focus on sharpening their writing and argumentation skills, learning how to craft clear, well-structured, and evidence-based arguments. They’ll explore the essentials of building a strong research paper, from organizing ideas to properly citing sources. The course will also cover ethical considerations in political research, including bias and misinformation.
Week 8:
Students will complete their research paper, incorporating feedback from their mentors to refine their work. They’ll also explore career paths in political history, law, policymaking, and academia, discussing opportunities for further research and professional growth.
